Run, Natasha, run!

Congrats to my friend Natasha for making this incredible commitment. You go, girl!

Friends, Family, Acquaintenances and All,

I’m training with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) TEAM IN TRAINING for the Maui Marathon on September 20, 2009.  Yes, that’s 26.2 really long miles!   What have I gotten myself into, right? Did I mention that I'm not exactly an avid runner?

Throughout my life, I have loved sports and pursuing athletic pursuits to challenge myself to new heights.  This definitely qualifies as the most challenging physical/mental endeavors I have EVER embarked on!  More recently, I have had thoughts about volunteerism and getting more involved in community service to raise awareness and funds for causes that I am personally interested in.  LLS happens to be a foundation that I have always admired from afar.

“Did you know that finding the cure for leukemia might greatly advance the cure for all cancers? Over the years, leukemia research has proven to be the window of hope for the treatment of other cancers. Bone marrow transplantation and chemotherapy treatment were developed from leukemia research.”

My maternal grandmother, Jewel Williamson, died of cancer at the age of 45 when my mother was only 15, so I personally know the effects of cancer and the devastating effects to the loved ones left behind.  My brother, sister and I missed out on the opportunity to meet, know and love this wonderful woman.  I will take action by contributing my will and strength to help raise funds to help find a cure.  Supporting the fight to cure cancer with TEAM IN TRAINING is one way I have decided to fulfill that responsibility.  I also have friends (some on this distribution) who have participated in this program in the past and have found it extremely rewarding and one of the best experiences of their lives.  I’m ready to make the commitment and excited to have a team behind me rooting me on.  I’ll need all the support I can get as I don’t exactly enjoy running long distances, especially 26 miles!

What you should know:

  • Leukemia & other blood-related cancers strike some 107,900 Americans each year and kills 60,500
  • Leukemia is the #1 cause of death in children between the ages of 1-20
  • Leukemia research has lead to effective treatments of Hodgkin’s disease, lymphomas and other  common kinds of cancers, including breast and lung cancer

What is Team In Training?

TEAM IN TRAINING program exists in order to raise funds to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood-related cancers.  Since it’s inception, 380,000 participants have raised more than $900 million for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  Team in Training is the original and world’s largest charity sports training program.

Over 75% of every dollar raised goes directly to the care, research, patient services, advocacy, & education of the LLS patients. 25% goes to administrative services.

In order to participate, I committed to raise $5,800 for the Society.  I need your help to reach this goal.  If you choose to donate, Send your TAX DEDUCTIBLE donation in the form of cash (money order) or check to the address below.  For Credit Card donations please visit my website.
