$1 million gift to teachers of the classics

Congratulations to Drs. Larry and Claudia Allums on the Dallas Institute's recent $1 million donation to its Teachers Academy. The Academy enrolls around 60 teachers each summer who focus on classic works. Applications are due by April 19, 2008.

I had the great pleasure of discussing the Allums' work with my dear friend, Dr. Willard Spiegelman, over lunch yesterday at the always wonderful Monica's Aca y Alla. We are both grateful that Dallas is home to such a fine institution, one of the few places in Dallas where conversations are more likely to be about poetry than football.
